A backup is a saved copy of your Stellar data at a particular date and time. It gives you a way to return to an earlier setup if something goes wrong. Backups include your tasks, profiles, proxies, and other app data, and are stored on this computer.
Open Settings → Backups to create a backup, set an automatic schedule, and view saved copies. Make a backup after setting up Stellar and before making major changes to your data.
Settings → Backups in Stellar 4.0. The dates and backup settings shown are examples.
Create a backup now
- Open Settings → Backups.
- Click Backup Now and allow Stellar to finish.
- Check that Last Backup shows the new date and time, and that a matching entry appears under Your Backups. These are your checks that the new backup was created.
- Click Open Folder if you want to see the saved files on your computer. Keep the original backup files intact.
Before creating a new backup, check How Many to Keep. Older copies are removed automatically when the limit is reached. If you need to preserve a particular older backup, keep a separate secure copy before adding another.
Set automatic backups
Under Automatic Backups, choose how often Stellar should save a copy. Under How Many to Keep, choose the number of saved copies to retain. For example, 10 backups means 10 saved copies—not a guarantee of 10 days of history.
Automatic backups only run while Stellar is open. If a backup was due while the app was closed, it runs the next time you launch Stellar.
Choose a schedule that suits how often you change your setup, and occasionally check Last Backup and Your Backups. The Daily and 10 backups settings in the screenshot are examples; your choices may be different.
Restore a backup
Restoring replaces your current Stellar data with the selected backup and restarts the app. It does not merge the old backup with your current setup. Changes made after that backup will not be included in the restored data.
Example: You create a backup at 9:00 AM, then add profiles and change tasks at 10:00 AM. If you restore the 9:00 AM backup at 11:00 AM, those 10:00 AM additions and edits will not be in the restored setup. Restoring Stellar data also does not cancel orders already placed with a retailer.
- Stop any running tasks before you begin, since Stellar will restart.
- Preserve your current setup first if you may need it again. Make a fresh backup, or use Settings → Data Management → Export Data for a separate copy. Check the retention limit so creating a new backup does not remove the older one you want to restore.
- Find the backup under Your Backups and review its date and time. Choose a copy from before the problem or unwanted changes.
- Click Restore beside that backup. Read the confirmation and check the date again. Choose No if you are unsure, or Yes when you are ready to replace the current data.
- Allow Stellar to restart, then review your restored setup before starting tasks.
Check the backup date before choosing Yes. Choose No to cancel without restoring.
Check your setup after restoring
- Check that the task groups and tasks you expected are present. Review products, quantities, modes, and any settings that changed since the backup.
- Check your profiles, proxy groups, and saved accounts. Any information changed after the backup may need updating again.
- Review the relevant connections and settings, such as IMAP or captcha harvesters, before running the tasks that use them.
- Once you have checked and corrected the setup, create a fresh backup so you have a copy of the version you intend to use.
Use Delete only for a saved backup you no longer need. Deleting a backup removes that recovery copy; it is not the way to restore it.
Backups versus moving computers
Backups are safety copies on the current computer. To transfer your data to another computer, use Settings → Data Management → Export Data. A local backup will not help if you lose access to the entire computer, so keep any separate copy you need in a secure location.
Use Backups for returning to an earlier saved setup. Use Data Management → Export Data when preparing a transferable copy of your data. Keep any export or separate backup secure because your saved setup can contain personal details and credentials.
For the export and import steps, see the Data Management guide linked below.
If you cannot find the backup you need
- Make sure you are checking the computer where the backup was created. Backups are stored locally.
- Check Last Backup and Your Backups. Automatic backups need Stellar to be open, and older copies may have been removed by the How Many to Keep limit.
- Use Open Folder to check the saved files. If you cannot open Stellar, or a restore fails, contact support before deleting or replacing app data manually.
